Forensic Evaluation & Consultation Services
Prime Forensic and Psychological Services PLLC provides independent forensic psychological evaluations, attorney consultation, and expert witness testimony for courts, attorneys, and agencies in criminal matters.
Led by Dr. Ashley K. Chason, Ph.D., ABPP, the practice provides objective, well-supported opinions that answer psycholegal questions. Designed to assist the court through objective, scientifically grounded opinions.
Dr. Chason is licensed in North Carolina, New York, Colorado, and Wyoming, and holds PSYPACT Authorization to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology.
Criminal Forensic Evaluations
Competency to proceed / Capacity to proceed
Assessment of an individual's present ability to understand legal proceedings and assist counsel in a rational manner.
Diminished Capacity
Assessment of psychological factors relevant to specific intent, premeditation, or related issues
Mental Health Diversion
Suitability and recommendations for diversion programs, where statutorily available.
Competency to Waive Miranda Rights
Evaluation to determine a defendant's ability to knowingly, intelligently, and voluntarily waive Miranda rights.
Attorney Consultation
Consultation services are available regarding forensic psychological issues, case strategy, witness preparation, records review, and diagnostic considerations.
Criminal Responsibility / Sanity / MSO
Assessment of an individual’s mental state at the time of the alleged offense to evaluate the potential impact of mental illness or related conditions under applicable legal standards.
Risk Assessment / Dangerousness
Structured professional assessment of psychological and contextual factors relevant to future risk and dangerousness.
Mitigation
Comprehensive assessment of psychological, neurodevelopmental, cognitive, trauma, family, and social history factors relevant to sentencing or other legal considerations.
Specialized Forensic Evaluations
Forensic psychological evaluation tailored to the specific referral question and legal context. (e.g., diagnostic clarification, intellectual disability, adaptive functioning, etc.)
Expert Witness Testimony
Deposition or courtroom testimony related to forensic evaluation findings and professional opinions.
Each evaluation is guided by the specific referral question and may include records review, collateral information, clinical and forensic interviewing, psychological testing when indicated, and assessment of relevant psychological, cognitive, or behavioral functioning.
